Naughtiest Day Ever

Mona had her naughtiest day ever.

Because of past destructive behavior while we are away, she sleeps in a big kennel in the basement during the day. This week she got out two days in a row by somehow unlatching the door. (This is the kind of latch where you need to first lift it and then move it over to the side before it will open.) Anyway, she visited every room in the new house and did something terrible in each one. Jono had forgotten to put one of our bags of groceries away the night before and she found it. She put a stick of butter in the couch, a huge hunk of pepper-jack cheese in our bed (which she crumbled and spread around) and some lunch meat in the sun room. She then took the soap out of the shower and put that in our bed too. She went into the baby's room, took all of his little diapers off the shelf and threw them on the floor, and then chewed up his wipes. She peed in the basement twice and chewed up a few boxes.

We put two padlocks on her kennel the next day, so I'll be jiggered if she's out when we get home. She is obviously traumatized by the move and is trying to tell us how mad she is about it.

Looking back it's kind of funny, but we were pretty angry at the time because we're trying to get our house looking decent and she was having a retro-active effect on that process.

I hope Mona's behavior is not indicative of your parenting skills. I have lots of parents who think their naughty children are cute too. Don't focus on the fuzzy hairs, but focus on the inappropriate behavior. It appears to me that Mona has you two wrapped around her front paw. Dad

Mona may also be sensing that little one on his way into the family. Lola started to act up as my due date neared and was very particular to the baby nursery... hiding Asher's toys, carrying his clothes all over the house, trying to eat his little socks, and on and on. The baby and the move, a bit much for Miss Mona!:)

Dad - ha ha.

Kirsten - I think you're right. She got out again yesterday and made sure to hit the baby's room. This time it was the no-tears shampoo and "safety q-tips" spread all over the room :)

Maybe you should sit down with Mona and watch "Lady and the Tramp." Then you can have the discussion with her that what her friends have been telling her about the coming baby just isn't true! I would be surprised if this doesn't put her at ease about the whole thing and she starts realizing that she is still an integral part of the family. Before you know it she'll be carting off the dirty diapers to the trash for you.

mal - yeah, i don't know. sometimes we ask her if she could just vacuum and dust a few rooms while we're gone, but it doesn't happen. so instead we bury our faces in her fuzzy neck and when she tries to get away we tell her it's time to "pay the rent". not a bad deal, really :)
